Stronger and Longer!

Grace Dorey Stronger and Longer! book

This book has been written to inform men of the recent research showing that pelvic floor exercises can help some men who have problems with their erections. Many men have difficulty gaining or maintaining erections and the prevalence increases with age.

For years now, women have been taught to exercise their pelvic floor muscles to prevent leakage of urine after childbirth. Now we know that it is necessary for all men to exercise their pelvic floor muscles to prevent erectile difficulties and restore normal erections. Research has shown that 40% of men who had experienced erectile difficulties for 6 months or more regained normal erections after performing pelvic floor exercises for 3 to 6 months1. A further 35% of men improved their rigidity. Pelvic floor exercises can also help to prevent the embarrassing after dribble men experience when walking away from the toilet and the same exercises are used to treat urinary leakage after prostatectomy. Pelvic floor exercises may also help men resolve problems with premature ejaculation.

This book will have a mixed readership. Primarily it is written for men and their partners to be used as a guide to the treatment options available to help men with erectile difficulties. Secondly it is hoped that men with normal erectile function will read this book and follow the exercise regime to prevent the onset of erectile problems in the future. Finally it will provide a succinct introduction to the subject for students, and provide professionals in other areas with an understanding of the problems and what can be done to help. At the end of the book there is a glossary of medical terms, some frequently asked questions, a questionnaire and a section on where to go for help. References are given to support the evidence based research.
