Our six clinical training courses have been written by Consultant Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, Julia Herbert. Designed for practitioners to expand their knowledge and skills relating to pelvic health.

- Provide education with regard to normal bladder and healthy bladder habits for women
- Discuss the specific role of the pelvic floor muscles in normal bladder function
- Conduct a baseline subjective assessment of a woman with bladder dysfunction
- Conduct a basic abdominal assessment
- Conduct an objective vaginal assessment of the anterior deep and pelvic floor muscles
- Plan an initial treatment including pelvic floor muscle exercises
- Conform to professional standards in relation to the assessment and management of men with pelvic floor muscle dysfunction
- Apply knowledge of male pelvic floor anatomy and physiology of bladder, bowel and sexual function to the assessment and treatment of male pelvic health
- Understand the pathophysiology of male pelvic health issues with particular reference to post prostatectomy problems
- Understand conservative management and treatment options for male pelvic floor dysfunction
- Conform to professional standards in relation to the assessment and management of people with anorectal dysfunction
- Provide education regarding normal defaecation and healthy bowel function for people with lower bowel dysfunction
- Discuss the specific role of the pelvic floor muscles in lower bowel function
- Conduct a baseline subjective assessment of a person with lower bowel dysfunction
- Conduct a basic abdominal assessment
- Conduct an objective anorectal assessment of the posterior deep and superficial pelvic floor muscles and anorectal function
- Plan an initial treatment including anal sphincter exercises
- Understand how to assess rectal sensation and provide biofeedback using an anorectal manometry device
- Conform to professional standards in relation to the use of biofeedback and NMES in the treatment of adult pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.
- Apply the basic principles of EMG and manometric biofeedback to design a treatment programme using biofeedback for the treatment of bladder and/or lower bowel dysfunction which is based on a subjective history and objective assessment of the pelvic floor muscle function.
- Apply the basic principles of NMES to design a programme using NMES for the treatment of bladder and/or lower bowel dysfunction which is based on a subjective history and objective assessment of the pelvic floor muscle function.
- Understand how to use computer software to enhance the delivery of biofeedback.
- Understand how to use EMG biofeedback simultaneously with NMES – EMG triggered stimulation.
- Understand the London protocol for anorectal physiology assessment and apply the findings from this assessment to the treatment of anorectal dysfunction using manometric biofeedback equipment.
- Provide education regarding healthy anatomy and physiology of the bladder and bowel in children and young adults
- Discuss the specific role of the pelvic floor muscles in healthy bladder and bowel function in children and young adults
- Discuss the pathophysiology related to bladder and bowel dysfunction in children and young adults
- Understand how to assess pelvic floor muscle function/dysfunction in children and young adults

Julia Herbert is our visiting clinical course tutor and a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 40 years of experience in the speciality of pelvic health. She has worked in NHS clinics and, more recently, in her own private practice with patients who have a range of pelvic health issues, including bladder and bowel dysfunction, prolapse and chronic pelvic pain.

Technical Training Courses

Our courses include Electrical Safety Testing, Device Under Test and BioCon Bladder Scanner Maintenance.

These courses equip staff with the technical skills required to maintain, and test critical equipment, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Training is either available onsite at a venue of your choice or at our dedicated Training Suite in South Gloucestershire.

Location

On-Site
When arranging the course at a venue of your choice, it is your responsibility to book the training room and ensure the delegates attend. The training room needs to be a suitable learning environment that can comfortably accommodate the number of delegates attending, and equipped with large screen and space for demonstration and the practical activity.

The on-site course is for a maximum of six delegates, however this number can be adjusted slightly on request. We will advise you as to what equipment you will need to make available for the training, and our trainer will bring their own personal training equipment.
