In March, we launched our two new biofeedback courses; ‘An introduction to biofeedback and electrical stimulation for adult pelvic floor muscle dysfunction’ and ‘Advancing practice using biofeedback for adult bladder and bowel dysfunction’. Delegates can choose to attend just one of the days at a time, or both consecutively, depending on their learning requirements.
‘An introduction to biofeedback and electrical stimulation for adult pelvic floor muscle dysfunction’
An overview of the course:
This introductory course will provide qualified healthcare practitioners with an introduction to using pelvic floor muscle neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) and biofeedback. This is to help understand the theory supporting the use of biofeedback and NMES in the treatment of adult male and female pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.
The one-day course is divided into two sections, one covering biofeedback, with the opportunity to use a selection of basic EMG biofeedback equipment in the classroom. The other part of the day will focus on neuromuscular electrical stimulation, with the opportunity to use basic electrical stimulation equipment in the classroom.
On 3rd March, we held the first ‘Introductory’ course which was attended by five delegates from across the country. With every course, we collect feedback to hear about the experience of the delegates, and if they have any suggestions to improve the course. This is even more important when it comes to new courses like this one.
A Clinical Nurse Specialist commented; ‘Very knowledgeable sessions, lots of information with great presentations. Great hands-on learning with equipment.’ Also, a Perinatal Pelvic Health Specialist Midwife commented on Julia’s teaching; ‘Julia delivers the content in an understandable way. The slides and booklet are really helpful. Practical sessions are great for understanding how to use the units and patient perspective. Can’t wait to get going!’ It’s fantastic to hear a few of the delegates have attended some of our previous courses or heard about this course through colleagues of theirs.
‘Advancing practice using biofeedback for adult bladder and bowel dysfunction’.
An overview of the course:
This advancing course will enable clinicians who already have a baseline knowledge of using biofeedback and stimulation to advance their practice in the use of biofeedback for pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. As this course builds on prior knowledge, we recommend attending our ‘Introductory’ course or an equivalent or that the clinician has experience using basic stimulation and EMG biofeedback in clinical practice before attending this course.
The one-day course is divided into two sections, the first looking at the use of biofeedback to aid patients with urinary dysfunction, including skills to both ‘up-train’ and ‘down-train’ pelvic floor muscle function. The other section looks at the use of biofeedback to aid patients with either faecal/anal urgency and/or incontinence and those with constipation/obstructed defaecation. The day also includes the use of manometric equipment to assess and treat anorectal dysfunction and rectal sensation according to the London Protocol.
The same five delegates from the ‘Introductory’ course attended the ‘Advancing’ course on the second day. We had positive feedback from the advancing course; a Clinical Nurse Specialist commented, ‘An interesting and reaffirming session on biofeedback and NMES. All information on the day was relevant.’ Also, another Clinical Nurse Specialist commented, ‘A thoroughly enjoyable course, all very relevant to my practice. Julia is a fantastic and knowledgeable trainer.’
Thank you to all the delegates who attended our first biofeedback courses of the year; we hope you found it beneficial. If you’d like to attend one of these biofeedback courses, you can book it on our shop here.
We have other training courses available, head to our shop to book or contact us at :
- Assessment of female pelvic floor muscle dysfunction – vaginal examination (practical course)
- Assessment of lower bowel dysfunction – anorectal examination and initial treatment (practical course)
- Advancing practice in male pelvic floor muscle function, dysfunction, assessment and treatment (virtual classroom course)
