Joining The West of England Good Employment Charter: Our Journey to Better Practices

Back to News

We are thrilled to announce that we have joined the West of England Good Employment Charter, a significant step towards enhancing our employment practices and fostering a positive work environment. As supporters of the Charter, we are committed to working towards the seven Charter characteristics, which aim to create fair, inclusive, and supportive workplaces.

Step 1: Action Plan Development

Our journey began with the creation of an action plan. This plan allowed us to assess our current employment practices and identify areas for improvement based on the Charter’s key characteristics. The action plan serves as a roadmap, guiding us towards achieving the standards set by the Charter. Keep an eye out for future posts to learn more about our plans!

The Seven Characteristics of a Good Employer

As part of our commitment to the West of England Good Employment Charter, we are dedicated to embodying the seven characteristics of a good employer:

  1. Secure Work: Ensuring job security and stability for our employees.
  2. Flexible Work: Providing flexible working arrangements to accommodate diverse needs.
  3. Real Living Wage: Paying a fair and sustainable wage that meets the real living costs.
  4. Engagement and Voice: Encouraging employee engagement and giving them a voice in decision-making processes.
  5. Recruitment: Implementing fair and inclusive recruitment practices.
  6. Developing People: Investing in the growth and development of our employees.
  7. Employee Health: Promoting and supporting the health and well-being of our workforce.

Step 2: Becoming a Supporter

Upon completing our action plan, we officially became supporters of the Charter. This milestone granted us access to a comprehensive toolkit filled with resources and materials designed to help us implement the positive changes outlined in our action plan. The toolkit is an invaluable asset, providing practical guidance and support as we strive to enhance our employment practices.

Step 3: Implementing Meaningful Changes

With our action plan and toolkit in hand, we are ready to start making meaningful changes within our organisation. By aligning our practices with the Charter’s values, we aim to create a work environment that is fair, inclusive, and supportive. These changes will not only benefit our employees but also contribute to the overall success and sustainability of our organisation.

Step 4: Annual Review and Continuous Improvement

Our commitment to the Charter is an ongoing process. Each year we will review our action plan to track our progress and identify areas for further improvement. This annual review ensures that we remain aligned with the Charter’s standards and continue to evolve our practices to meet the needs of our employees and the organisation.

Joining the West of England Good Employment Charter is a testament to our dedication to creating a better workplace. We are excited about the positive impact this will have on our organisation and look forward to sharing our progress with you. Together, we can build a work environment that is fair, inclusive, and supportive for all.
